Getting to know John Peterson and Ferndale Farms and his masterful turkey operation that acknowledged a caring and nuanced understanding of animal husbandry and ecosystem function was love at first sight for Keller Crafted.
During the green pasture growing season the Petersons raise their flocks by utilizing rotational grazing management. Keller Crafted and Ferndale made a collaboration to celebrate the turkeys grown exclusively during this time called "Pasture Grazed."
Because of this artful approach, Ferndale produces slow growing turkeys with robust immune systems not needing any antibiotics or any other unnatural additives or interventions.

Growing turkey on grass pasture slows down the growing process and because of the slow growth and the level of activity creates a fully mature bird that renders optimum flavor.

Turkeys are managed in a dynamic production model that raises turkeys in a free range environment when beneficial for bird and landscape and on lush pasture during the growing season.
Our pasture grazed turkey selections come from the summer flocks only.
LEGACY
Ferndale Farms is a 3rd Generation Family Farm owned and operated by the Peterson Family located in Cannon Falls Minnesota.
When Fern and husband Dale (Ferndale) started growing turkey on their Cannon Falls farm, they did it the only way they knew how — without shortcuts. 75 years and 3 generations later, that philosophy hasn’t changed. Rather than following the industrial turkey farming model, Peterson Farm stuck to their roots and followed the time-honored approach.
Today, a compassionate approach to flock management and regenerative grassland farming is still practiced in a dynamic dance between land steward farmer and mother nature.
