Benefits of Eating Organic

Benefits of Eating Organic

We all know that organic foods are supposed to be healthier, but for many of us, our knowledge about them ends there. There are a whole host of reasons for why organic food is better to eat than food grown or raised by conventional methods. Since we all value our health, here we will go over just some of the benefits of eating organically grown and raised foods.

Avoid Chemical Pesticides

This is something we would all probably rather not think about, but what happens to the insecticides, fungicides and pesticides we use on conventionally raised foods? The answer is nothing, they just sits there until you eat them. Organic food by its nature does not use these harmful chemicals, opting instead for natural analogues. These natural analogues are generally considered much less toxic than their chemical versions, although not completely non toxic. That makes organic food a great choice for people who don't want insect or fungi poison to become a daily food group.

Mitigate Environmental Harm

Nowadays, it's more important than ever for us to take care of our planet. Food production is actually a major contributor to pollution, but organic foods are slowly making a dent in those numbers with ecologically friendly farming and animal raising techniques. Here at Keller Crafted Meats, we take preserving the environment seriously, and we go the extra mile to minimize any harmful effects.

Avoid Animal By-Products, Antibiotics, And Growth Hormones

Conventional modern livestock rearing techniques rely heavily on all three of these things. Unfortunately, feeding livestock animal by-products greatly increases the incidence of Mad Cow Disease. Regular use of antibiotics also runs the risk incubating antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. All of these practices are banned in organic food production in favor of natural raising methods.

Get More Nutrients

Organic meat production isn't just for animals and the environment, we reap the benefits too. While the numbers vary, organically raised meats have been found to be richer in certain nutrients (omega 3 fatty acids being one example).

Avoid GMOs

GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, are plants that have had their DNA altered for specific traits otherwise not found in nature or through cross breeding. The most common traits brought out in GMOs are a resistance to pesticides, or the ability to create their own insecticide. As discussed in the first entry, these are things people generally want to avoid.

The Clean 15

The Clean 15 are a list of foods that naturally require little use of pesticides to begin with, and so are much safer to eat non organic. Fruits and vegetables not found on this list (along with meat and dairy) have a much greater benefit when buying organic.
